How to Be a Gentleman on The Dance Floor

As a man, you will surely want to be a gentleman on the dance floor. From your swift dance moves to smelling fantastic, you will want to impress the ladies. We all dance (whether we admit it or not), and having proper etiquette on the dance floor is certainly ideal.

However, what are some tasks that you can take part in to ensure that you are a gentleman on the dance floor?

Here at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, we want everyone to have a great experience while dancing. That’s why we have gathered some tips to assist you in being a gentleman on the dance floor. If you are in need of some inspiration, be sure to continue reading to learn more:

  • Be clean! When dancing, you will most likely be around others. From dancing directly with a partner, to being within a group setting, you can almost guarantee that people will be close by. Before you venture off onto the dance floor, make sure that you are showered and ready to go. We all experience perspiration, and it is nothing to be ashamed of! But, if you are clean and deodorized, you can ensure that the dancing experience is pleasant for not only you, but the people around you as well.
  • Proper introductions. If you are taking part in dancing, you may not always know everyone around you, or even the partner you get paired up with. Introducing yourself is a polite way to say “hello”, as well as make your partner feel more comfortable with who they will be dancing with. Make some small talk, such as asking your partner how long they have been dancing. Also, be sure to always thank your partner after every dance.
  • Avoid being cocky. You may be one of the best dancers, and that is great! However, to be polite, it is advised that you do not come off as a “showoff”. Enjoy your dancing, and show your partner how great your moves are while also involving them. Most importantly, just be sure that you make your partner feel as though they are as great of a dancer as you, rather than trying to one-up them. No one wants to feel embarrassed when they are just trying to have a great time on the dance floor.

Being a gentleman on the dance floor will certainly ensure that your partner and the dancers around you will all have a wonderful time. Here at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, we would love to get you involved in dance! If you are still seeking a welcoming dance studio in Sherman, Oaks, California, be sure to contact us today.
