2016 at Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks was an extraordinary year, filled with lots of fun, dancing and many firsts for Sherman Oaks. So many to chose from, we picked a few of the amazing things that happened throughout the year. Enjoy and get ready for an even better year!
Twice a year Arthur Murray Schools around the world celebrate their students moving thru the dance levels and Sherman Oaks is proud to announce this year we had our first couple ever Les & Roberta Lazar move into the Gold Level. The Gold Level is the highest level of achievement for any student, showing proficiency and comfort in both competitive and social dancing. We are beyond words of how proud their teachers and the entire Sherman Oaks team is of this couple for all their hard work and excellence throughout the years.
Sherman Oaks also feels blessed to welcome a new bundle of joy Layla Mitnick to the Amso family. It is such a pleasure seeing Benjamin & Meredith Mitnick go from learning how to dance for their wedding to becoming outstanding parents. We can’t wait to see her grow into a beautiful dancer just like her parents.
Arthur Murray Dance Schools always strive in educating, guiding and training to produce the best teachers, dancers and mentors in the organization. This year we were happy to support 2 of our couples who will be expanding the organization by opening up their own schools. We wish them all the best and can’t wait to see them succeed.
Just as teachers grow and move up in the business it allows space for new employees to come into the studio. This year we are ecstatic to welcome 6 new instructors; Rebecca, Katrina, Andrea, Antwoine, Roman and JC, to the Sherman Oaks team. Coming from all over, such as New York and Peru, they might be new to this Arthur Murray school but each one has many years of experience with different types of dance forms or have come from different Arthur Murray Studios. Each one brings a different strength to the team and fits into Sherman Oaks like a glove.
We are delighted to say the first few competitions done this year as professionals they have shined. They stood out on the dance floor, looked spectacular and represented Sherman Oaks tremendously. One of our ladies even got to take home a well-deserved 1st place. We can’t wait to continue to help grow, and prosper our old and new staff members in 2017.
Another thing we strived to do this year more than ever is reach out to the Sherman Oaks community, non-profit organizations and support our US Armed forces.
Teaming up with the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce we were able to participate in the annual Sherman Oaks street fair and provide more entertainment and excitement to local residents. Hundreds stopped by our booth, spun the wheel, danced with us and participated in our line dances. It has become one our favorite yearly events to attend and can’t wait for 2017!
We are humbled and honored to say we were able to donate to many silent auctions such as Wings of Hope, Make a Wish foundation and Mi Amor gala to benefit Safe Passage for women of physical and emotional violence. Our biggest contribution and collaboration was with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Real Men Wear Pink and Discovery Shop under the American Cancer Society. Together we were able to host our 1st annual Dance and Silent auction party and we personally thank our students and everyone that attended and helped us raise over $1,000 for cancer. The excitement and energy was super high that evening and it will become a yearly event for Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
To complete our gift giving for the holiday season, we participated in Toys 4 Tots and our first Adopt A Soldier campaign. Students and staff donated toys that were collected for less fortunate kids and also donated goodies and gifts to send care packages to US armed forces in the Middle East that are not as fortunate to come home for the holidays. We are blessed to have such wonderful men and women protecting our nation and we love to make their holidays a little bit better. The largest thank you to everyone that participated, our feedback from the soldiers is tremendous and this will definitely become a new yearly Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks tradition!
A yearly tradition for Sherman Oaks and other Arthur Murray studios is to choose their student of the year. The students picked are considered the core of the studio, they are loved by all, they participate and are a true positive emblem of what dancing can do for your life. This year we were honored to nominated Shelby Fogelman as student of the year for Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks. We are blessed to have her at the studio.
To wrap up 2016 we had another first of what we are sure to become an annual tradition. Our Ugly Sweater holiday party. We had a very special visit from Santa Clause who had all the boys and girls sit on his lap to make their holiday wishes. The night was filled with lots of food, and of course plenty of laughs and dancing. A huge hit among all the students and staff!
We thank everyone who has visited the studio, made a phone call, contributed to all the wonderful events we had throughout the year, and takes lessons at the studio. Sherman Oaks would not be as energetic, and a passionate studio with a family feel environment if it was not for our loving students and staff. 2016 was marvelous and we can’t wait for an even better 2017. Happy Holidays to all! Your AMSO staff!
