How to Present the Best Dance Etiquette on the Dance Floor

Having proper dance etiquette is of importance! After all Dancing is a wonderful part of life and should be showcased in the best way. The music, the movement; it can all contribute to a healthy and happy lifestyle. But, there are many details that should be considered as you hit the dance floor.

As you dance, you will most likely be around others, or dancing with a partner. Therefore, you will want to present yourself in the best way on the dance floor.

We believe that have great dance etiquette is a must! That’s why, here at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, we have put together a few tips on how you can present the best dance etiquette for your own dancing adventures. Be sure to continue reading to learn how you can be a joy to dance with:

  • Present a Friendly Demeanor. You will have many people in your dance class. It’s important to extend a warm hand to as many people as possible. This will help them feel comfortable to dance with or near you and will also spark friendships. However, if you brought a date, be sure that they are your first priority.
  • Avoid Unwanted Advice. Whether you are a skilled dancer, or you are just knowledgeable about the form, you may feel the need to help your fellow dancers with a little advice. But, if this advice was not asked for, it could be considered rude to give out, or make others feel as though you are criticizing them. Instead, keep your comments to yourself unless you are asked to assist.
  • Leading and Following. You can either lead or follow when you dance with a partner, and it is important to decide who will take on what role before you begin dancing. A strong lead will be decisive with their movement, and not body pressure. A strong follow will be able to complement their partner’s moves. You and your partner should base your decision off of these characteristics. However, if you feel as though you are both leaders, just take turns.

Having proper dance etiquette is a must! These tips can assist you with presenting yourself wonderfully as you dance.
