As you are likely aware, the art of dance can greatly benefit your life in so many ways. The community feel of a dance class, the physical movement and activity, as well as increasing your reflexes and stability; what could be better than that? Even though you are aware that dance offers so many benefits, you may still have something holding you back.
There are three villains of dance than can stop you from truly enjoying experience, are you aware of what they are?
We want to help you overcome these villains! That’s why, here at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, we have gathered some tips to assist you with overcoming them. If you would like to gain some great insight, be sure to continue reading:
- That Awkward Stage. When you first begin dancing, you are prone to feeling awkward. Your body isn’t used to moving in such a way, and you can feel as though you aren’t doing it right, or that you appear awkward. You can overcome this feeling with more frequent dancing. The more you dance and practice, the more natural it will become. In no time you will feel confident in your moves and it won’t seem awkward anymore.
- Comparing Unfairly. The more you work on your dancing, the more you will progress. However, with this progress comes the option of feeling inadequate. There are bound to be other dancers in the room who have made more progress or appear to be better at dancing. However, this doesn’t reflect poorly on you, and is an unfair comparison. Instead of looking at them as better, you can realize that their dancing abilities don’t affect you negatively, and that you can always continue to work hard and reach your own goal.
- Negative Commentary. When your loved ones or acquaintances hear that you are taking part in a dance class or bettering your skills, they could call upon your abilities. If they offer negative feedback, it can really take a toll on your confidence. Their comments don’t have to hurt you. Remember, this is your hobby and you are enjoying it. That’s all that matters!
