“At the age of 4 Alexandra Olmedo began exploring all types of creative movement; from Latin style dances, to Modern, extending all the way to Interpretive dance and Ballroom. Joining us all the way from Cincinnati, Ohio to pursue her deep love for dance, she is excited to further her study of dance with the Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks team. In an extraordinarily brief time she has already earned distinctions in the Arthur Murray world having placed First at North Star Chicago Dance-O-Rama in Smooth Future Champions, and placing in the finals in Las Vegas Superama and Unique Dance-O-Rama, among others. She has also been asked to train her peers at district and area teacher gatherings on the best ways to dance, teach and communicate with students. A competitive champion, she has trained with professional coaches from around the world, including Latin champion Marco Mechelke, Jozsef Parragh and smooth champions Mazen Hamza and Izabella, among the numerous traveling consultants within the Arthur Murray organization including Agnes Kazmierczak, Urs Geizenhainer, Drew Miller and Krista Humphrey, Bob Powers amongst others. Outside of (but related to) dance, Alex takes great interest in the study of anatomy and particularly movement oriented-modalities; she’s a certified yoga instructor and Healing Touch Practitioner, and has been an apprentice to renowned Fanchon Shur, with a focus on Somatic Therapy and healing through motion, applying many of these techniques in her teaching. Alexandra is well-known for her passionate detail and compassion, and strives to always put a smile on her students’ faces.
